Flying Pig Block Party: Spirit Station & Street Skate

Join us for a block party & street skate while we cheer on runners in the Flying Pig Marathon! We’re back bigger and better this year with a DJ, hospitality tent, a cookout, street skating and line dancing. The best part? By cheering and partying from 7:30a - 1:30p, you’ll help us earn money toward the Riverfront Rink revitalization campaign. You’re welcome to bring a dish or drinks to share at the cookout, or just bring yourself!

We need a headcount for the marathon organizers! The first 30 volunteers to register before April 24th and arrive the morning of the marathon by 7:30am will receive a free flying pig t-shirt . You can sign up online and provide your shirt size using this link. Our password: skate

Important note on registration: The marathon organizers track our attendance so they can make a donation to the riverfront rink based on the number of folks we have present. If you are able to commit to participating from 7:30a-1:30p on Sunday May 5th (rain or shine!) please register so we receive credit for organizing our crew of participants! If you can’t commit to being there the whole time but still want to join us, you don’t need to register, just show up and come skate with us!

Our 2024 Flying Pig location will be Downtown along Central Parkway between Coffee Emporium and Salvation Army Offices, across from the new downtown Kroger. We will have a designated strip of the street to skate on while Central parkway is closed for the half-marathon runners. Our block party will include two tents, a DJ booth for DJ Gemini, and a food station. Skaters should bring folding chairs or seating if you can - there will be limited seating available.

We highly recommend arriving downtown before the 7am street closures. You can park in the public lot at Central and Main on the east side of the Salvation Army offices, at the meters in Court Street Plaza, or in the Kroger parking garage. The nearby parking is paid, so plan accordingly for finding free parking in surrounding downtown areas further away. If you are carpooling, planning public transit or using ride share, allow yourself enough time to arrive downtown ahead of our 7:30a start time.

What to wear & bring: Wear pink! It’s the official color of the Flying Pig. The first 30 folks to register and arrive by 7:30a the day of the marathon will receive free tshirts to wear.

Bring with you:

Your Skates & skate bag

Comfortable shoes (we’ll be on our feet all morning & you’ll need breaks from your skates)

A poncho (this is a rain or shine event)

Waterbottle

Sunscreen

Fun money: downtown establishments will be hosting events all weekend long and the riverfront will be full of amazing food vendors you’ll want to try at the Marathon Afterparty in Smale Riverfront Park.
